Dreadnought Building (University of Greenwich)
Originally the site of an Infirmary for Greenwich Hospital, the Dreadnought building boasts a colourful history. It closed during World War II due to bomb damage to the roof and then reopen to treat Tropical Diseases with the eventual take over in 1948 by the NHS. The building was closed in 1986 and remained that way until 1998 when the University of Greenwich remodelled the building for use as their main library.
With the re-location of the University’s Library to Stockwell Street, the grade II building has been refurbished to create a state-of-the-art student hub opening in 2018.
Willmott Dixon undertaken the contract for the refurbishment, providing learning, gym facilities, 500-person capacity bar, teaching, and social space for the students at the university while keeping the builds historical charm and character with the design by Dannatt Johnson Architects.
As a Supply Chain Partner to Willmott Dixon, John Watson Doors collaborate with Sub-Contractor N.H.Etheridge (Building) LTD to supply the bespoke internal and external doorset package which included fire rated screens and cross directional American White Oak stained internal doorsets.
